Cuba Healthcare Crisis: Understanding the Collapse of the System

Cuba is currently experiencing a significant collapse in its healthcare system, with Diario de Cuba reporting that over 80% of citizens are struggling to access basic medical supplies amid a troubling medical supplies shortage. Efforts for donations for Cuba are becoming increasingly vital to help alleviate this crisis.

The collapse of the Cuban healthcare system has reached a critical breaking point due to a 'perfect storm' of hyperinflation, a severe lack of raw materials for domestic medicine production, and a historic exodus of medical professionals, exacerbating the ongoing medical supplies shortage and increasing the need for donations for Cuba.

The island is facing a critical shortage of essential items, ranging from simple headache relievers to life-saving antibiotics. This medical supplies shortage is severely affecting the Cuban healthcare system, leaving chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension untreated. In response to a request from Bishop Arturo González,  Bishop of Santa Clara, Cuba, Saint Peter Parish is collecting over-the-counter medicines and donations for Cuba to support the Church-run dispensaries in the Diocese of Santa Clara, which are facing a medical supplies shortage due to the challenges within the Cuban healthcare system.

These Catholic-run dispensaries play a crucial role in supporting the Cuban healthcare system by providing free medical care and supplies to the elderly, the homeless, and single mothers, regardless of their religious or political background. They also rely on donations for Cuba to help address the ongoing medical supplies shortage.

The project depends entirely on international donations for Cuba and the selfless service of doctors and nurses who volunteer their time to treat the sick without pay, despite the ongoing medical supplies shortage impacting the Cuban healthcare system.
